Since I became acquainted with Maya Angelou through her television appearances etc etc, I have admired her for her warm friendliness and obvious humour. Some women are natural beacons for other women. Maya has been one of those. May God rest her in peace. Amen. Mega Katonda Afirika, WIFE OF GOD.

Great poet Maya Angelou is no more. She has died at her home today. A great loss for literature.

    With Maya, it was love at first read….her blackness, her wits and her philosophy. While enjoying Maya’s work, I thought she existed in the past…. I never knew such a talent is ‘not’ of old…and still can’t believe that who wrote “I Know Why Caged Bird Sings” was still among us. I always wish to answer her poetic question in this natural way;

    Yes, your sexiness upsets me,
It comes to me as a surprise
That you can dance like you’ve got diamonds
At the meeting of your thighs.

Adieu Maya Angelou…..you are a rainbow in our cloud…..and we now know why the caged bird sings….

She was a wonderful poet and a phenomenal woman. She will be in my prayers as will her family. She has left us a great deal to think about, a great deal to make each of us a better person. She will be greatly missed.

Still I Rise

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you? ...

Touched By An Angel

We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.

Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
