A heavy heart weighs him down. He regains steam and plows ahead. Making some steam, he is again confronted with a tortured scar. Picking the scab opens up old wounds and leaves that scar unprotected. It is painful.
Leaving the scar to heal is found to be more painful than to pick it apart. When the scar is picked, the pain leaks out but also reveals the feeling left behind still exists.
