They Killed Me

I watched them
As they gathered around the fireplace,
Chanting, songs of self praise,
Conspiring against me.
Helpless, I watched.
'Lynch him! ' They shouted in chorus;
I trembled.
'Will the truth dawn? Will people know...? '
I thought, 'That they accused me falsely? '
'Lynch him! ' They shouted again,
This time, louder.
I was feebler.
They will lynch me in public tomorrow
Infront of the people I was trying to defend.
The following day everything was set.
They called it my day.
As they were about to chop off my head, I shouted;
