I search for words so profound to say about a man I call my father He is a man of honesty and never stood to be lied too he never would have bothered He was a man who enjoyed his beer. I remember fondly, of listening to his laughing and jokes and cheer. He is a man who was good with his hands, his mind was so innovative He could make anything that he needed his mind created. He could fix it all, so ‘Mickey Mouse’ he would often say But it did the trick even if Mildred’s windows sometimes blew away. While in retirement he re-invented himself a whole new persona One day we went to the bar and the waitress brought his Corona She just plopped it down in front of him and said here you go “Candy Man” I scratched my head and asked, “Why this nick name for my ‘old man’? ” Because he always leaves candies as a tip she said so that’s why we call him Candy Man Why I said to him? He said because I can! Does she even know this man is my father! Oh god, why bother! Do you have any regrets I asked him one day near the end? He confidently replied “No” I don’t have that kind of time to spend. I found that so profound coming from a man, who’s always taking ‘bets’ It makes a Son proud to know his Dad can face it all, and in the end have no regrets.
