1978 Poem by Shaun Cronick

Out on the wiley, windy moors,
We'd roll and fall in green.
You had a temper like my jealousy,
Too hot, too greedy...

Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night,
And wouldn't you love to love her?
Takes to the sky like a bird in flight,
And who will be her lover? ...

Winding your way down on Baker Street,
Light in your head and dead on your feet.
Well, another crazy day,
You drink the night away,
And forget about everything...

Take me now baby here as I am,
Pull me close, try and understand.
Desire is hunger is the fire I breathe,
Love is the banquet on which we feed...

Summer loving had me a blast,
Summer loving happened so fast.
I met a girl crazy for me,
Met a boy cute as can be...

Sun is shinin' in the sky,
There ain't a cloud in sight.
It's stopped rainin' everybody's in a play,
And don't you know,
It's a beautiful new day, hey, hey...

Listen to the ground,
There is movement all around.
There is something goin' down,
And I can feel it...

I know your eyes in the mornin' sun,
I feel you touch me in the pourin' rain.
And the moment that you wander far from me,
I wanna feel you in my arms again...

I have a mansion but forget the price,
Ain't never been there, they tell me it's nice.
I live in hotels, tear out the walls,
I have accountants, pay for it all...

Through autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way,
You always loved this time of year.
Those fallen leaves lie undisturbed now,
'Cause you're not here...

If you change your mind,
I'm the first in line.
Honey, I'm still free,
Take a chance on me...

You can dance,
You can jive.
Having the time of your life.
See that girl,
Watch that scene.
Diggin' the dancing queen...

Sam, you've been waiting much too long now,
It looks like she's not coming home.
Sam, you've been loyal, true and faithful,
All this time with being alone...

Brown girl in the ring,
Tra la la la la,
There's a brown girl in the ring,
Tra la la la la…

I got chills they're multiplying,
And I'm losing control.
'Cause the power you're supplying,
It's electrifying...

Ooh, it takes every kind of people,
To make what life's about, yeah.
Every kind of people,
To make the world go 'round...

Aaahhh freak out!
Le freak, see'est Chic!
Freak out!
Aaahhh freak out! ...

There was a lot of rocking going on that night,
Cruising time for the young bright lights.
Just past the gasworks, by the meat factory door,
The five lamp boys were coming on strong...

I know it's late,
I know you're weary.
I know your plans don't include me,
Still here we are.
Both of us lonely...

She stood there bright as the sun on that Californian coast,
He was a Midwestern boy on his own.
She looked at him with those soft eyes so innocent and blue,
He knew right then he was too far from home...

I was walking down the street,
Concentrating on truckin' right.
I heard a dark voice beside of me,
And I looked round in a state of fright...

You're as cold as ice,
You're willing to sacrifice our love.
You never take advice,
Someday you'll pay the price, I know...

Ca plane pour moi,
Ca plane pour moi.
Ca plane pour moi, moi, moi, moi, moi, ca plane pour moi,
(Hou-hou-oou-oou!) ca plane pour moi...

Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl,
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there.
She would merengue and do the cha-cha,
And while she tried to be a star...

Ooh wah, ooh wah cool, cool kitty,
Tell us about the boy from New York City.
Ooh wah, ooh wah c'mon kitty,
Tell us about the boy from New York City...

Love is in the air everywhere I look around,
Love is in the air every sight and every sound.
And I don't know if I'm being foolish,
Don't know if I'm being wise...

Come on come on, hurry up Harry come on.
Come on come on, hurry up Harry come on.
We're going down the pub,
We're going down the pub...

You don't bring me flowers,
You don't sing me love songs.
You hardly talk to me any more,
When I come through the door at the end of the day...

So many destinations faces going to so many places,
Where the weather is much better.
And the food is so much cheaper,
Well I help her with her baggage for her baggage is so heavy...

Thanks for the times that you've given me,
The memories are all in mind.
And now that we've come,
To the end of our rainbow...

Once had a love and it was a gas,
Soon turned out had a heart of glass.
Seemed like the real thing, but only to find,
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind...

I know a girl from a lonely street,
Cold as ice cream but still as sweet.
Dry your eyes Sunday girl,
Hey, I saw your guy with a different girl...

Don't know why,
I'm surviving every lonely day.
When there's got to be,
No chance for me...

Photographs of fancy tricks to get your kicks at sixty-six,
He thinks of all the lips that he licks.
And all the girls that he's going to fix,
She gave a little flirt, gave herself a little cuddle...

I hear him before I go to sleep,
And focus on the day that's been.
I realise he's there when I turn my light off,
And turn over.
Nobody knows about my man,
They think he's lost on some horizon...

And this is the complete Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel from 1977.
Years later he also wrote Mercy Street for his album So,
After he read the tragic Anne Sexton's poem 45 Mercy Street.
Simply because I like it and it reads like pure poetry...

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill,
I could see the city light.
Wind was blowing, time stood still,
Eagle flew out of the night.
He was something to observe,
Came in close, I heard a voice,
Standing, stretching every nerve.
Had to listen, had no choice.
I did not believe the information,
Just had to trust imagination.
My heart going boom, boom, boom,
Son, he said, grab your things, I've come to take you home,
Hey, back home.

To keep in silence I resigned,
My friends would think I was a nut.
Turning water into wine,
Open doors would soon be shut.
So I went from day to day,
Though my life was in a rut.
'Till I thought of what I'll say,
Which connection I should cut.
I was feeling part of the scenery,
I walked right out of the machinery.
My heart going boom, boom, boom,
Hey, he said, grab your things, I've come to take you home,
Hey, back home.

When illusion spin her net,
I'm never where I want to be.
And liberty she pirouette,
When I think that I am free.
Watched by empty silhouettes,
Who close their eyes but still can see.
No one taught them etiquette,
I will show another me.
Today I don't need a replacement,
I'll tell them what the smile on my face meant.
My heart going boom, boom, boom,
Hey, I said, you can keep my things, they've come to take me home.

I will add more to this and will then move on to perhaps 1979 for there were many fine songs of that year too.

There are many more verses over time, to add to what is already displayed.
