A Cry For Help - Poem by Jessie Hopkins

I smile though I'm broken inside.
I laugh when I want to cry.
I walk when I want to run.
I live though I want to die.

Take away my tears.
Take away my fears.
Take away this misery in me.
Let me feel true happiness,
not what I fake to cover up sadness.
How I wish I felt love in me again.

I struggle through the day.
Against what, I don't know.
I feel life pressing down on me.
Like a dammed river, I no longer flow.

Take away my tears.
Take away my fears.
Take away this misery in me.
Let me feel true happiness,
not what I fake to cover up sadness.
How I wish I felt love in me again.

I don't want to feel this way!
I don't want to fear the next day!
I want to live!
I want to laugh!
I want to love!
O, dear Father,

Take away my tears!
Take away my fears!
Take away this misery in me!
Let me feel true happiness,
not what I fake to cover up sadness!
I want to feel love within me again!
