A Minor Chord - Poem by gordon nosworthy

pills pain grunts and groans
appealing little anecdotes
straight out of life
the unseen universe always in the background
laughing at our egos
not through malice
through observation, experimentation
just a touch of cruelty
amused because all that learning
has no termination
no meaning
no rationale other than that
which we do not see around us

a dead child at the water’s edge
an overloaded boat filling with water
sinking slowly into news talking points
and grilled cheese sandwiches
and single cups of coffee with 2% milk
while reading said talking points
on a tablet
perhaps the same one the infamous moses
hauled down from the mountain
and threw at the feet
of all those who weren’t middle class
because you know those below don’t
while those at the top have got

a minor d minor c g minor e minor
scrambled eggs and toast
served with a limp and floppy body
of a boy so lifeless he is dead
while our hormones get all excited
doing zulu jumps and traditional jazz
dancehall freestyle folk street disco swing
ah music is my soul
death is my future
in a universe that thinks it’s funny
to watch humans run around like crazy
thinking they are on the cutting edge
while they are merely data
waiting to be turned into information
