A Patient Suitor. Poem by ivor or ivor.e hogg

A Patient Suitor.

Moonlight was my homeward escort.
I felt no need for company
Strolling slowly deep in thought.
An idea struck me suddenly.
I need no man to protect me.
Here in the quiet countryside
I can walk alone in safety.
Although sometimes I decide
To let a friend accompany me
He sees me safely to my door
Its choice and not necessity.
He's just a friend and nothing more.
Although I know he'd like to be
more than a friend and marry me.
