A Right To Silence Poem by Peter Davidyock

A Right To Silence

There's a story I've been missing
And I should not fret to tell
I try to recall your name now
But it's drowned by churches bell

I lie in bed just listening
As the tiny rain it falls
Tears are rolling down my face
from the dark I hear your calls

I cannot follow you now
I know not where to go
Alone I'll lay here all day long
and wish that it would snow

You've gone too far for me now
You've crossed that unseen line
A border now divides us
A gap as old as time

Your name I can't recall now
It wouldn't do me good
You've wandered past the edge now
Much farther than you should

Your story I've been missing
But it's just as well you see
For one that goes where you go
Is much too far for me

I'll lie here in my pleasure
And take peace in my surround
If I try to call your name now
Should on these walls I pound

When all I hear are echoes
Through the days and through the nights
Your name it still escapes me
And you know I have the right
