A Time In Long Past Colonial New Zealand Poem by Terence George Craddock

A Time In Long Past Colonial New Zealand

there was a time in long past colonial New Zealand
when houses were not warm not comfy well insulated
when some rooms were heated some rooms were not
when those not born in a tent knew how to close doors;
to keep the so precious loved heat in to keep the cold out
some rooms were time delay heated only in the evening
kitchen often fire lit early morning was loved for warmth
oh how young children winter cold escaping kitchens loved;

this was an era when houses were not as warm when synthetic
warm clothes were not available when animal fur was best
heating clothing to keep warmth in to fend against chill cold;
strange how fur is out but leather is ok because we still eat
cows although now far less beef mutton it is an age of eating
chicken cheap as main meat the vegetarian age is still coming;
