Affirmation, Of Sorts - Poem by Sarai Girma

The skeptic in me
Never really believed
That we would ever see
Times as crazy as these.

But here we are.

I have to say,
We’ve come a long way.
Yes, we’ve… I’ve… fucked up
I’ll admit that.
There have been times
I’ve wanted to quit
While I’m behind—
It’s easier to say
“I hated him” than
“…God… I still love him”.
Believe me, I know.

But here we are.

I’m sure there’ve been
Times when you’ve hated…
Me. Don’t worry.
So have I.
I’m glad we don’t
Anymore.

So here we are.

Now what?
