Ages Pass - Poem by Andy Brookes

young fellow,
old fellow,
a life lies between

somehow
we get old.

it's easy
wait long enough
survive enough.

dodge the shit
hitting the fan,
voila.

no one said,
no. one.
about the loneliness

inner
silent screaming.

see me
just see me

anguish comes
in myriad forms.

deep boned,
cold.

the dislocation
of invisibility.

oh the
invincibility
of youth.

age bring some resolution,
amelioration.

with time
inner conflicts
find quiet waters.

swift
life's torrent
has slipped by

gallons of water
down to a trickle

you end beached
on deserted shores
by passed.

gray hair
tick.

old bones
tick.

saggy skin
tick.

still you,
transformed.
ticking boxes
before the final box
delivers you.

neat clinical,
under taken,
buried.

discomposed,
compost.
