Amoretto Questionnaire Poem by Nika McGuin

Amoretto Questionnaire

Rating: 3.9

I've never been in love, all arrows have failed to land
so there's probably alot about it, I don't quite understand
hence, I've compiled this questionnaire
anent all the hopeless romantics out there:

how is it, one can become so enamored
within the stretch of a month or so?
and when such ephemeral flings do end
snapping as would a flimsy rubber band
some are beside themselves with grief?

how and why is it, that love birds forsake the flock?
momma & pop, lifelong friends, all but abandoned at the dock
yet wholeheartedly sailing off with the, 'new kid on the block'
am I unkind, to think such shipment is but a load of crock?

why is it, that base, sappy cliches
become the things you find yourself athirst to hear?
such timeworn prattles, that to an outsider like myself
are oft discerned as cheap, penny a pop, poppycock!

mayhaps, someday I'll add whirr to the swarming love poem sea
and declare, 'alas, they got me! '
but currently, I only blind folk see

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Amoretto: besides being one of my mom's favorite drinks, is a representation of cupid in a work of art. In other words I'm using it as a synonym to the word love.

Mayhaps: I made it up, though I may not be the first to have done so. Mayhap itself is a real archaic word though, meaning possibly or maybe. Since I'm combining maybe+perhaps I've added an s.

Anent: another archaic word, which means concerning or about
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

A local grocery TRADER JOES has been selling Amaretto at a big discount the past several months. No one knows WHY? but every week it disappears from the shelf. I had some last night with my coffee. So I had to read this poem. Someone once suggested a park in- every city be set aside for people in love to congregate, so the rest of us don't have to put up with their antics! But it's Spring - we'll give them the benefit of the doubt. You know, Nika, what happens in the Greek myths to people who scoff at the lovers and the love god! Beware! Hide this poem from Venus and Cupid!

Where in love are worries and woes? For half a century my love flows, In love's light our life glows.

Wonderful write Nika.... I love this! Yes, it is surprising why some are so quickly shot down by the arrows of Cupid and how fast they forget those slings and come out without a trace or a scar....! ! The question why these love birds so easily forsake the flock is one, I too ask myself! .... But your fear (wonder) if you may also be afflicted by this 'fever' (being young) cannot be ruled out! Enjoyed! ! A 10 for this!
