Around The Fire Poem by joseph lonergan

Around The Fire

AROUND THE FIRE

Sat around the fire on many a winter's night
Many a loving family while ambers glowing bright
This before the telly's when talking was the norm
When outside gales were blowing they cosy from the storm

When children sat transfixed while many a story told
Hush was in the room the children never bold
With coco cups in hand now baby fast asleep
Mammy has been busy too baby counting sheep

In the last millennium like half ways back in that
Families stayed at home in best chair daddy sat
Him the story teller a new one every night
This while shadows moved shivering by candle light

Them days now long forgotten no more dad's stories told
Telly's went and spoilt that their rubbish now unfold
If time it would reverse just let this age admire
How it was back than happy families around the fire
