"Weary with toil, I haste me to my bed,
The dear repose for limbs with travail tired;
But then begins a journey in my head
To work my mind/ … from far where I abide,
Intend a zealous pilgrimage to thee …"
—William Shakespeare, "Sonnet #27"
'It's too late, and I can't wait …'

It's late, it's too late for you—I'm gone.
I can't wait … for you, for your promises
to keep, for not returning my books until
the 11th hour—no, the 12th hour, and doing it
surreptitiously, behind my back—as I found it,
them, most of the books, found it out yesterday—
my University of Arizona Wildcats sports cap included—
you just trying to do me more damage with others,
my friends, create a new hardship for me as 'has
happened'—this present perfect tense again—
you providing even more 'proof', proofs, proving,
testifying to your basic dishonesty, treachery, lying …
thievery, book thief … actress at university, reciting
lines to me from Shakespeare's 27th Sonnet—so
completely at ease doing so, doing so so naturally,
as … you a born actress—at lunch … only two weeks
ago. Les temps … attendre que quel'quen? Mais, no …
Only a zealous pilgrimage far away, far away from me.
