Autumn Spells - Poem by Marco Juliano

~ Autumn Spells ~

Apple, Pecan and Pumpkin Pies
Abide to hear the barking wild geese fly
A moment's silhouette upon a Harvest Moon
As trees shed their bounty of colorful leaves all too soon

Ginger, Pumpkin and Zucchini Breads
Some Indian Corn and as well Candy Corn
Butternut, Acorn and Spaghetti Squash
Corn Stalks, Hay Bales and Jack-O'-Lanterns forlorn

Home spun costumes of Witches, Goblins and Ghosties
Scary orange and black decorations blazon 'round
Cornucopias overflow with beastie gourds and ugly pumpkins
And 'A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving's playing all over town

Football Games and Marching Bands overwhelm
Rich hued quilts blanket every vale and hill
Children outline their hands to make turkey shapes and
Spiced Wafer Cookies with Apple Cider remain such a thrill

Macy's rotund Parade Floats and
'Miracle on 34th Street' always so neat
Christmas Carols seem to come sooner each year
But when Santa Claus arrives, my gosh, still such a treat

Each day grows darker earlier and earlier
Nights become very cold and colder yet
Aromas of crackling firewood seek us out
Full moons rule from twilight till morn all about

Remember to polish all the good silver and brass
Sweep out the chimney and re-tune the piano
Dust and clean everywhere Mother insists
And secretly add names and gifts to cryptic lists

Trim the house from top to bottom
Friends and Family will soon be arriving
Strangers and Lovers we shall never forget
And almost just enough time for one last trip to market

Cornbread Pecan Stuffed Turkey with all the Trimmings
Only the very best Mashed Potatoes of course
Green Bean with Mushrooms and Sweet Tater Casseroles
and home made sweet-red, Cranberry Sauce

Popped all the corks
and over loaded every fork
Oh, my eyes were so much bigger than my tummy once more
and don't let us forget to break the wish bone again

Church Bells now Beckon to us all
For our Prayers of Hope and Dreams Forthcoming
As we Light more Candles with Everlasting Gratitude and Grace
Till Love and Peace fills every Heart and Face

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
