Awareness

i look about
and see my world
fast becoming dead
i listen to
the wailing cries
of those
who don’t get fed
i think about
these problems
and how they might be solved
and i wonder at the causes
and the beauty being sold
i smell the air
and know at once
that it’s no longer clean
it makes me shudder
to drink the water
you can’t tell me
that it is clean
i can feel the earth a shaking
from the trees we’re cutting down
and i sense the dolphins panic
as in our nets they drown
i remember the great beauty
of wild rivers
before our dams
and i shudder
as each bullet
into a breach
is jammed
i listen
to our leaders
and their sophisticated
lies
i hear the hungry children
a horrible way to die
the answer is so simple
we can fix it up
just by being honest
love
will do the rest.
