Before I read this poem
There are some things you
Should know about me
I’m a bi-lingual bicultural
Bilaterally legal alien
Before I read this poem
I would like you to know
That speaking to you in this language
Sometimes feels like wearing spiked heels
Because I can slip in and out of the conversation
But I will always be uncomfortable
Until we can learn to accept
That the most beautiful language
Between you and me is
