love this. I think what is saying, is that he couldn't really be completely honest with his audience. And hits you with, I don't weep do you? (Report)Reply

You're full of interesting observations. But you're also a prisoner of pessimism. Try seeing the happy side of life, search for it, like a woman has to. Look in the mirror each morning and say You can either be a miserable sod all day, or you can be the reason somebody smiles all day. What's it going to be? Take on board that old Irish saying, Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you cry alone. Yes, life is a kick up the arse, but you've still got to live it, give it your best shot. Break the habit of a lifetime, write a truly happy poem. Have your bluebird on your shoulder. Zippidy-doo-dah. (Report)Reply

I'd rather be the sincere miserable sod, with my last shred of humanity (my Bluebird) left intact yet unseen, rather than being full of misplaced optimism.

Their is a hollywood movie that makes reference to the blue bird of happiness. Also a shirley temple movie that does the same. Yet my main purpose ofcommenting here is to profess my favor for this exceedingly favored poet. My heart, My spirit. Adores this poet. Exaults his style of inspiration to write. also i will humbly ask anyone who finds this to also read my poems. (Report)Reply

Somewhere around we all have that bluebird inside us, but very few could actually say I'm too tough for him... It's the bluebird that is too tough for most of us, unfortunately... (Report)Reply

Well, with this poem he let the bluebird out, and it's flying around freely and singing cheerily. It's also Bukowski at his best. Thank you for providing it. (

I assume it has now been edited to include the whole poem, for the text seems to correspond almost exactly with those of others submitted as corrections.)
