Boxed Heart Poem by empty shell

Boxed Heart

Rating: 3.0

In a gun-metal grey box, with a crude piano hinge,
a oversized clasp and covered with Celtic runes,
my heart beats
and beats and beats it does
I try to ignore it but it calls to me
nagging incessantly, constantly,
let me out, let me out, let me out
I want to take it out but I know that it will bolt
so I give it gentle caresses and coo to it
'be content, its safer for you in there'
I know it doesn't believe me
maybe I will take it out, just for a while,
just long enough to imagine you
and I,
walking in the light
once again.
