Burns Black Poem by J. James Martinez

Burns Black

If only I
Could lay you down
And have you sleep
Right through the heartache

No moments of grievance
No wasted minutes on useless meddling
Or futile battling
For we’re short on time
Short on seconds
Short on…

Our years shuffle
Stagger and stumble
Drag their feet into waiting oblivion

Run with me
I see no choice

We have so much to live for
So much to witness
Before the sun burns out
Burns black

We have so many more tears
To shed
So many rivers and lakes to create

We have so much to watch dwindle
Dull and die
Before the sun burns out
Burns black
