Carmen De Boheme Comments

Rating: 3.3
Sinuously winding through the room
On smokey tongues of sweetened cigarettes, --
Plaintive yet proud the cello tones resume
The andante of smooth hopes and lost regrets.

One of my favourites of the shorter Crane poems not included in his first set White Buildings. No poet in English aside from early Pound and late Yeats, but only at their finest, in the first half of the century, had such an exquisite ear.
