Character (Limerick) - Poem by Kelly Kurt

If I could have a singular wish
My poor mind would undergo a squish
Which request would I make?
What choice should I take?
Altruistic or purely selfish

It would be a difficult decision.

There's no such thing as altruism, 'cause it makes you feel good, doing it. In fact, some say doing something merely for the benefit of others is the pinnacle of selfishness because there's no better feeling. This makes your limerick border on profound, when you speak of a singular wish- -and yes the mind does get a little squishy when you ponder the implications...
    10- -well done.

I agree with your assumption about altruism. I have stated the same reasons for years. Thank you, Brian

Well said Kelly.. As there was no reply button for some reasons on my comment I put it up here.. Money corrupts always, anyone.. Altruism is impossible.. People can claim that sh*t, but it's impossible, we are humans and greedy..

As far as 100 trillion dollars are concerned as far as that is not wasted on bombing people somewhere I am okay.. If only we used our resources better..

Well, I guess, at the end, there might be little to worry anyways, the way climate is changing in a century we will screw up the world to the point where nothing would remain worth anything...

And btw, talk about bombing Syria, everyone says lets do it.. The global summit on climate change happens in Paris no one gives a damn... Just the way things function I guess... It will all end soon maybe, so maybe we should not care.. We will either go extinct due to Nature's wrath or bomb ourselves to death...

    Thanks for the poem...

Your assessment of the state of human affairs is dead on (No pun intended) I am working on a poem that illustrates that. Thanks again, Souren

Maybe somewhere in between would be a better idea.. Thanks for sharing Kelly.. (Report) Reply

That is a hard thing to do. Should the wish be for 100 trillion dollars so one could conceivably fund altruistic causes? That money may end up corrupting. Should it be for god-like powers? That too would eventually corrupt. Peace, an end to hunger, disease or corruption itself? I assume that many people would concentrate more selfishly.: -( Thanks, Souren

Superb! ! ! ! A profound limerick in a satirical and questionable form. The basic nature of human is well exposed. Thanks for sharing this piece, Mr. Kelly. (Report) Reply

Thank you my friend. My wish would be for humanity's benefit and not just my own

Thanks, Kumarmani. I am sure that many people have wondered what they would ask for if they could have one wish granted
