Cheers To My Love Life - Poem by A.j. Binash

One Sunday afternoon
I was awakened by a phone call

My head was raw
From a hangover
And I was lying next to an ash tray
Filled with stubbed cigarettes

She spoke

"How have you been? "

I sighed

"Pretty f****** lonely"

"Are you drunk? "

I belched

"Was last night"

"You're drinking all the time aren't you? "

I sat up
Ash rolled off my chest
Onto the covers
…I was naked

"I am naked…"

"Who'd you f***? "

I laughed

"Myself…or if she was here. She took off"

"You probably scared her off-

At the end of the bed
Was a half emptied beer
I swallowed the rest of it
My glasses were always half full

-like the others"

I held the empty beer up

"And cheers! To the future others"
