Companion - Poem by Gordon Jerome

Trees to my left
Trees to my right
Limbs overhead shutting out all the light
Sounds in the underbrush
Along side the trail
It hides in the dark with reasons yet to unveil
I follow this path
Worn deep in the ground
Quickening my step with each little sound
Nearer to the trail
The sounds seem to be
Close enough now to grasp tight hold of me
I dart down the trail
And finally break clear
Knowing any moment I will witness my fear
It burst in the open
Jumping over a log
My faithful companion our family dog.
“closing thought”
Let not your fears over burden your mind
Seek out adventure and enjoy what you find
