Consuming Silence - Poem by Lynzi Berner

This silence is trying
to consume me

It starts on my soul
and its trying to get out

It wants me in the shadows
speaking to the dark

It wants me on my knees
begging for my sanity

It wants to creep its way to my heart
where in a tiny space
locked tightly away
I have hidden you

It wants to take you from me

I play by distraction
forced smiles
idle chores
feigned conversation

It sings to me in a siren's song

Let me take away
your pain
I'll make it so that
you'll never remember
his name

I close my eyes
and scream
into the shadows
of consuming silence

You Can't take him from me!
