Crossing Currents - Poem by Stephen Roberts

Leave me by the bridge
A token offered in
Could not stay your hand
From turning other stones

Deaf you grind
On cold hard rock
Quick to dissolve
In crossing currents

Tides away I slow, intact, to shore
Alone, whipped, and chilled myself
By same sea-winds

-

How violent is nature that we
should be crushed against each other

-

Glowing torrid under the sun's great light
I hope but also fear
One day I'll see you glimmer past
Sedimenting, unbound, and joyful

Topic(s) of this poem: gay, loss, love
