Dads - Poem by malerie walker

There’s this hero
Called your dad
He makes you happy
When you’re sad

He’s there to catch you
When you fall
If you want to play a game,
He’ll throw the ball

First, you’re a
Little one
Dancing in dresses and
Having fun

If you skid your
Knee
He’ll clean your
Scab carefully

Next you’re seven
On your birthday
Getting great presents and
Your dad will be the first one to say,
“Happy birthday to you on this special day! ”

Finally you are eighteen
And he’s sending you off to Rome
But he’ll still be there
In your heart, in your mind and in your home
