Dawning Poem by Lilibeth Apat

Dawning

The realization comes to us too late sometimes
That the promise made yesterday may not hold by this time
That the meeting of hearts does not mean chaining the soul
And words usually uttered are empty, impersonal, cold.

It strikes us too late that good things just don’t last and
Though heavenly, are just made for that moment, and never come back;
The happiness felt disappears by the wink of an eye
The magic is lost before we enjoy it to the max.

Now I know I should make the most of everything while it lasts;
Memories are sweet but not enough to live by
Since people come and go, in and out of my life
My happiness should not depend on anyone else but me, on my side.
