Dear Friend. - Poem by Bailey Burris
Why do you always pin your heart to your vest,
When you know how it always end, in a mess?
I think my friend Sarah said it best.
But, heres my attempt to comprehend the rest.
Love is sometimes a torturous game,
It seems the out come is always pain.
Why would the Beatles say such a bluff
Thinking that all you need is love.
It’s idiotic, you see.
We need plenty of other things.
Please believe me, please just see.
Please just stop falling for everybody.
I guess I don’t think like the rest.
I guess I don’t see all the happiness?
But love like that is just crazy to me.
Just a string of doubt is all it seems to be.
That kind of love is a pointless dream.
I know I am being harsh, but how else am I supposed to be?
And you are talking about marriage already?
You have only gotten one, measly kiss.
To be blunt, you are far to young.
Chances are, he’ll leave in a month.
But you’re so set on “it’s going to last”
Babe, stop givin’ your heart so fast.
I’m not trying to hurt you.
I just want you to be happy.
I don’t want you to look back,
And see everything ended crappy.
I love you to the core.
For you, I’ll always be here for.
