Death In The Bush-Seals

Rating: 5.0
Their distressed cries resonated through the rookery
With hunger gnawing; and starvation a certainty

The seals took the plunge when the tide came round
Braving the currents, as they swam outbound
Then the hunt began, midst the ocean wide
With lashing winds and angry waves to ride
Squids on the surface; mussels from the floor
Shoals of fish passing; not to be ignored
The hungry phocids ravenously fed

Such a well written poem on the savage reality of many a seals fate in the effort of survival in an enviroment fraught with danger. Although it is necessary for many animals to be expendable links an aggressive food chain I'm still feeling sorry for the poor starving pups.

If the balance is not maintained; a link in the chain will go extinct and finally lead to the demise of all those in the chain, There is no place for 'feelings in nature. Thanks Simone.

Death in the bush is a poem that reveals the truth of life. I am reminded of Darwin's theory - the survival of the fittest. Not just animals, but man also would do anything to survive. It is the chain and circle of life. The truth has to be accepted. Hunger is never tolerated. A classic poem, Loke.

A beautiful poem on nature and and struggle among the creatures have been astutely presented indicating the preying and surviving through seals and whales. The way of presentation is fantastic. Thanks.

It's a poignant piece of poetry! Liked the underlying philosophy! The epitome of this poem is the first two lines which are repeated as list two lines! The hungry wide open mouth of the creature perfectly synchronizes the theme! Appreciated!

A beautiful story of the mightier preying over the weaker and the trials each creature has to face for survival! The seals hunt down mussels and small fish and they in turn are gobbled by the killer whales! Unfortunately the small seals with the death of their parents have to starve and die! The distressed cry of the small seals resonate not only in the rookery but in our ears too! What amazing knowledge of marine life and what beautiful presentation!
