Death, My Seductress - Poem by Gibby Gorres

Oh, death, my seductress
Who prowls in the charredness of the night
Redeem me from self-anathema

Mark me with your kisses of salvation
Whisper comforts to mine ears
Such spiritual Viagra

If beer in this nicotined room does not disgust thee
If only the sound of rustling tins
Gives life to the evening’s din

If only human company is both prozac and euthanasia
If only journals could absorb wretchedness to blacken its soft pages

If only novels and poetry could give escape
If only life’s pleasure is to masturbate

If in this life you comfort me
Death, my seductress:
I shall marry thee.
