Discarded Idea Poem by Andrea Cebrecos

Discarded Idea

Thrown in a corner
Were the words “Once upon a time”
Crumbled and forgotten
Waiting to be thrown out
But before it lay there, molested
This single sheet had held a never ending collection
Of ideas and dreams
Its creamy surface had yearned for contact
It had beckoned the gentle stroke of the pen
And then the gentle touch finally came
“Once upon a time” appearing in its white plane
And the paper felt inflamed
Longing for the stories that would take shape
But the thought had stopped there
The caress of the pen coming no more
It rested on the desk for many days
Its smooth linen, covered by dust, began to wither away
Until the pen came again
But this time its intentions were cruel
Scratching out in red the paper’s favorite words
The mistreatment soon seized
But it wasn’t long until torture came once more
An unknown object had picked it up
Ripping it in half
And crumbling it into a paper basketball
It soon found itself soaring through the air
And, missing the basket, hit the cold floor
And it still remains there in shame and despair
With the beginning of a story that failed
