Don'T - Poem by Jeannie Anglin

Don’t tell me lies and expect me not to notice or care
Tell me what you feel, what you think, what you dare
My heart is not a game for your enjoyment
I don’t want it broken or even slightly bent
I will give it to you freely if you only ask
But don’t play me for a fool while you wear love’s mask
I have been hurt deeply by others before you
I only hope that your love will be true
Love is not a toy or a game
But it can hurt just the same
Why do I allow my heart to feel
Before the last break has begun to heal?
