Don'T Go Far Off - Poem by Pablo Neruda

Don't go far off, not even for a day, because --
because -- I don't know how to say it: a day is long
and I will be waiting for you, as in an empty station

Exactly how I feel and I bet every other reader that has ever experienced loving someone and missing them like a missing heart! Pure emotion, some folks who profess to write poetry are so afraid of. He makes me feel braver...Thanks Pablo, Tai (Report) Reply

I think this poem is a lot more about obsession than it is love. (Report) Reply

Breathtaking passion, desire and love that many do not get to experience.... (Report) Reply

I know that feeling and tried to capture something of a similar craving in my poems 'So Many Times' and 'When I Wake Up Every Morning'. (Report) Reply

How powerful this is, I was unable to breath when I fininshed and have to keep reading it. To have loved passionately is to understand this poem. (Report) Reply

This poem expresses the feeling of yearning so well! It brings a lump into my throat everytime I read it. (Report) Reply

It's been a while since I have missed and longed for a special girl like Pablo is describing here, but I definitely remember the feeling. Pablo is so good at describing emotions in ways that make you experience it yourself again...

this is such a sweet experssion of and aching pain of love of attachment. Really depicts the horrid feeling of the 'if' factor.

Makes me wonder, can people really feel deeply for someone? Can someone really make you feel this deeply? (Report) Reply

This was very emotional right and a cry for despair. It was really sad. What an expressive writer and talented. (Report) Reply

I believe this poem is incorrectly labeled. The poem listed above (Don't go far off...) is actually Sonnet XLV from Neruda's One Hundred Love Sonnets (Cien Sonetos de Amor) . 'I Crave Your Mouth, Your Voice, Your Hair' is a separate poem called Sonnet XI from his One Hundred Love Sonnets. I think the page should be titled 'Sonnet XLV' or 'Don't Go Far Off, Not Even for a Day.' (Report) Reply
