Dreamers In Space Poem by Kevin Patrick

Dreamers In Space

Rating: 4.0

A whirlwind flash, a flame of blue
The sky exhaled a sonic boom
and people gasped, their eyes awake
The silver saucer stirred their fate

it swerved around in one great arc
and landed in the old ball park
crowds jaws dropped, the air lock swung
and came a being beyond the sun

He strode with jelly elegance
Reptilian skinned, green confidence
in glowing robes he uttered fourth
an echo round the quaking earth

"Sorry folks, but you got to go
your not citizens of this great world
see, even though, you evolved here
we came here first by a billion years

So grab your things and hit the door
my people were the first slime molds
to make this planet civilized
we butchered and we colonized

Well ship you off, to the next rock
don't worry if the air all sucks
I hear the rates are much cheaper
That'll help you filthy dirt eaters"

And one by one we were shipped out
to cosmic wastes were no weeds sprout
on harsh red skies that atrophied
in the boonies of the galaxy

But old nations and their pride
Were swept away, beneath the tide
And humankind now strives hard
"We come in peace, to earn a green card"

We're all dreamers in space, some more than others. I liked the rhythm in the poem but there are a few grammatical issues that you'll need to fix. Overall an enjoyable and humorous poem to read.

A thought provoking poem beautifully crafted and well executed. The imagery is so compelling. Liked the last stanza. The last line came as a surprise.10
