Drifting Into Memory - Poem by Stephanie Gentry

I hesitate to dream
Though my body aches for repose
Just when I feel you are fading
I drift into the darkness

Shadows of your face
Follow me into my dreams
Dispelling the radiant ambiance
I once found within my respite

Unable to resist
the endless fascination
Of which vision will be my companion
When I surrender to the night

All courage and strength are abandoned
As my eyes droop and breathing slows
Defenseless in my sub conscience state
To fight off the thrills of you

I work my mind into a frenzy
Hoping to stay awake just one more hour
To guard my heart from the sweet temptation
To get lost within this refuge

For even in my dreams
Sweet memories are tainted
By the haunting stings of aches so deep
No stupor can erase them

Each morning when I awake
My body rejuvenated
I feel your presence once gain
From the echo of my dreams

But I can no longer resist
For the hours grow long
And daylight approaches
I lay me down to rest

I feel my body sinking
My mind wandering far from me
I feel the warmth envelop my soul
As i drift defenseless once again

back to you....
