Dry Your Tears Africa - Poem by ANTHONY ANIGBATA

Dry your tears Africa
Your season of laughter is here
Dry your tears motherland
Wail no more for all the wrongs
Done to you in your budding days.
They made you a mountain of all sorrows,
Whipped your back till it was radiant red.
Still you could rise to this stage
Where we see you standing today.
Gather all your children together
And teach them your winning ways:
That pain that does not kill
Only makes the body stronger.
You have shown us all
How patience and persistence can be
That elephant strength
Which breaks the chains of bondage.
And now it’s time to celebrate
Your victory over your persecutors
Wail no longer, in the night
When your full moon stare
At you. Wail not in the day,
When your scotching sun smile at you
Steadily, for your seasonless tears, brims
Your oceans, your seas,
Your rivers, your streams
And ponds, in your land, inhibiting your celebration.
Dry your tears Africa
For I see, better days ahead.
