English-Humor? Or Humour?

Rating: 4.1
It all started with Bri Edwards who said ‘enthral' is spelt ‘enthrall'
But residing in Malaysia, the Queen's English was taught to all
My laptop was bought from the States; locked to an American drawl
But it was in English U.K. in the software that I installed
For the English in the U.S. I can't see eyeball to eyeball
That was how the issue arose and I fell into the pitfall
The computer says it's ‘humor' but the software would not play ball
Insisting it is spelt ‘humour', and it was not funny at all
Then words will be underlined red, and it would get me rather sore
So, I came to a compromise, which turned out to be a miscall
Sometimes turning to the U.S. though my English then will be mauled

The differences in spelling is perhaps nearly as vast as languages. I tend to change the spelling when a red line prompt suggests I do because I dislike making spelling mistakes. Hmm.... perhaps I could change the language preferences...lol

Wow! I'm tickled by the debate arising from this write. actually I was just having some fun with rhyming, Personally my grammar sucks and my spelling is no better. I depend a lot on my PC for the corrections. With my blurry eyes, typo is also an issue with me. End of the day, it gives something for my friend Bri to keep himself busy. Ho Ho Ho

A delightful humour and debate on the English Vs American spelling. Well! Loke, you should follow your own choice and comfort level! Whether humour or humor - enthral or enthrall - what does it matter? As long as the meaning is conveyed, all is well! Thank you, Loke with an affable vote. :)

I was taught English that is written and spoken in England. You have an option in your computer to change the American English into British English. American like to simplify the spellings. I don't think there is any harm in it. Languages develop in this way, e.g., His Story simplified as History.

Thank you sir, I have tried that. My PC was bought from the states, and if I were to switch to English U.K.; the @ button will interchange with the button. I found out that this is an issue with all PCs bought from the U.S. and Canada, Anyway there are no real problems as my software for writing is defaulted in English U.K. It is only our friend Bri who picks it up as he works with English U.S.

A small typo: The @ button will interchange with the apostrophe button

I do face the same problem, but now I have come upon a compromise.... thinking of people like Bri, I switch to 'humor' instead of 'humour'. Sometimes I am caught in a dilemma.... however I shall never use 'check' for 'cheque' in money transactions. You have very humorously brought out the confusion and dilemma of those who follow British English which undoubtedly is Standard English!

Nobody seems to be inclined for a compromise. What's wrong in following our respective premise. Thanks a lot.
