Eyes Poem by Purnima Arha

Eyes
one of the magnificent creations
as deep as the oceans
reflection of your soul
light of the thoughts
that dwell in your heart

Perfectly expressing your emotions
happiness makes them bright
sorrow makes them dull
fear makes them wide
contentment brings them to normal size
hate makes them dark
jealousy makes them small
love makes them dance
they give you a heart's glance

Sometimes they speak without
making a sound
they speak of the painful nights
one spent to earn
a living for the whole house

Sometimes they hear
the silent cries around
they hear the agony
of continously starved bellies
of the stray people

But usually covered
by a veil of ignorance
they keep the darkness outside
sometimes they are selfish
they don't see the injustice
which is bound to happen

Wishing only to see the colours
of the world's rainbow
How can one ignore
The Darkness
Spread all around.
