Gemma O' Hanlon

Fetally Withdrawn - Poem by Gemma O' Hanlon

My heart beats with torn anguish
fatally I withdraw; emotions raw,
never saw the torture I would
endure; from the hands of the
man I idolized from my core

I withdraw, fatally, cowering;
from this emotional pain, it leaves
me mortally wounded; cringing,
fatally withdrawn, my scorn is
deeply embedded; leaving me
drained, fatally I withdraw

My disdain diminishes; pain
subsides as I regain, self control
of my pain; living life unfurled
from my fatally withdrawn pain,
substaining through my belief in
spiritual restraints to remain
sane, no longer fatally withdrawn
