Frankly, My Dear..... - Poem by Herbert Nehrlich 2
Apostrophes can be the keys
to understanding living trees.
Each leaf is either off or on
which means it's present or it's gone.
A leaf that's fallen off the tree
but still hangs on (in misery)
by a small thread would need to show
and that is for you all to know
a comma, though inverted here
denoting that it still is near;
if it is firmly still attached
has not through breezes been despatched
it needs no gap apostrophe
as any moron ought to see.
A poet (not the only one)
of good repute (through what he's done)
posts poems full of big mistakes
which give the spelling witch the shakes.
This does detract from what he says
and furthermore it sooo dismays
some readers (luckily not many)
no, no, it surely is NOT Danny,
to me it smells of Yankee schooling
I say an F. It is my ruling.
