Gazal 6 (Chahal Asrar) Poem by Mohammad Younus

Gazal 6 (Chahal Asrar)

If I would endure the fire of separation...
...from my beloved with patience...
...my eagerness for union with Him would be...
...Iike a thorn in my eyes!
(That is, I would always ardently desire to meet
my beloved, if I could bear with forbearance
the separation from my beloved.)

If even for a moment of my thought,
He goes out of my sight...
My soul would rip apart into pieces...
...and my heart would get restless

If He were to manifest...
...the radiant effulgence of His beauty...
On every side thousands of lovers...
...would fall martyr to His beauty

If I were to stand at his door as a candidate...
...and move the door-ring to seek His appearance,
My heart in ecstasy like the door-ring...
...would jump up with exuberance...
...that He might show up His face to me.

If I were to join the Ocean of Love...
...my soul surely would smell the fragrance...
....coming out from his House of Union

If a staunch fireworshipper - infidel -were to feel
His fragrance...
...he would be the leader of all the travellers...
...traveling on the path leading to Him.

If my desire to to be near to him were granted,
With the abundance of ecstasy,
I would go round the whole world...
...in order to wittness Him everywhere, andx
...and in every created thing.

Were I to be counted amongst the lovers...
...who were annihilated in His way...
...I would feel myself highly honoured...
...even beyond the limits of the skies.

Were this gift (of life) not rejected...
...with disgrace by His Highness,
Ali would sacrifice to Him hundreds
of such lives! ! !
