Getting Up The Nerve - Poem by Kay Bell

i've had a million conversations with you
all of them in my head
things i wish would happen
things i wish you would have said

a lie of my creation
one that would eventually break me down
would you come to my rescue
when i finally hit the ground?

in my dreams i know you would
just hold me in your arms
in my dreams you love me
and would never cause me harm

but all this isnt real
and you've hurt me many times
i wish i could scream at you
but i guess im not that kind

i'll let you off the hook
but eventually i'll get up the nerve
but by that time im afraid
i'll forget who you ever were
