Giving Up - Poem by nicola burkett

To help replace the fags and matches
I’ve opted for those 16 hour patches
Chewing on anything to ease the craving
But just think of the money that I am saving

Now I’ve had my near misses I can not deny
But it’s been hard to let go and say goodbye
Some days I’m moody, I snap and I shout
Some days the fags are all I think about

Since I’ve quit my food intake has grown
My weight has ballooned stone after stone
Agonizingly watching them from afar
I jealously see others inhaling their tar

Now today i stupidly smoked a fag
Then with guilt threw the packet in the bin bag
I know it was stupid and i know it was wrong
But i know i can do this, i know that i'm strong

Very genuine. Life is not easy. But the brave person soldiers on in spite of adversity.
Excellent write, Nicola. So good to read you again.

    As always,

    Sandra
