God Milk? Poem by David Floren

God Milk?

She’s so wrong.
God’s not just white –
It’s white as well.

Only He’s right?
Wrong again.
He’s right. It’s right.
As is she.

Not just Judgment Day.
No sun has ever risen
To christen all of us
Fussbudgets adjudged
Without first watching us fuss
With judgment’s adjustments
(of all denominations) .

With child –
The mind fancies itself birth –
Mother of all angels
(and abominations) .

God’s not wholly pronunciation
Of Gabriel’s annunciation,
Of clever words, of mere letters.
Carl Sagan loosed some of these fetters.

Whosoever fetters faith
With a song’s unsung words
Is a poor wraith that rues,
Losing a tune’s cozy warmth.

Each of us a full God
Can’t quite be.
The apple qua apple
You pull from its tree.
But the last breath
Of a Red Delicious
said “sing me a tree
Song.” And that’s auspicious.

Do you know something
About God?
Good.
Something’s all we can take.

All the distant signals
The whole world’s radio
Telescopes have ever caught
Weigh less than a snowflake.

Slogans that ask questions.
Answers you can't fake.
