Good Night Means I Love You - Poem by Kathleen Pastrana
I was a heap of leaves,
then you came like the wind
that blew me away
our first conversation left me
hanging, and it felt like reading
an excerpt from my favorite story.
In that moment, I knew,
I'd spend the rest of my nights
writing about you, and I wonder
if I ever cross your mind
in between takes, or
in five-minute commercial breaks,
because I think of you when
I hear of storms and maps and gray.
But after all the wishful thinking,
as the day comes to a close,
I bet it never occurred to you
that in every good night,
what I mean to say is
I love you,
and a simple 'good night' from you
would have sufficed.
