Gordon Jerome

Goodbye - Poem by Gordon Jerome

She walked into my heart
over a quarter century ago
But belonged to another
so my feelings I did not show
She was a beauty to behold
and forever always will be
I’ll never really know
why she once hooked up with me
She has the strongest of wills
and a most intelligent mind
A more precious woman
you would search very hard to find
Though we went our separate ways
so many years ago
She will hold a spot within my heart
that will never lose it's glow
And not a day goes by now
that she doesn’t cross my mind
I wish her all the world
and all the happiness she can find
For I once held such a dream
for which I deeply loved and cared
And I treasure each special moment
that together we have shared
Some think me a simple fool
because my feelings linger still
But few have ever known such love
and probably never will
I thank her for the privilege
of once calling her my wife
And wish her everything she desires
throughout the rest of her life.
“no closing thought”
