Goodbye To My Heart - Poem by Sara Stowell

I still remember
When I first saw your face.
And I’ll never forget
Our first warm embrace.

Or our very first talk,
That day whilst it rained.
It didn’t dampen our spirits,
Only washed away past pain.

I still remember
When you said you still loved,
Me.The following day...
You were all I thought of.

I won't forget how we trembled
As you held me tight,
Or the stories we shared
That went on into the night.

It all seemed like magic
This meeting- I’d only dreamed of,
The end of the rainbow,
A gift from above.

But nothing's forever,
And all things must end.
Like a leaf in a storm,
You were gone with the wind.

So I said goodbye to rainbows
And horses with wings,
Unicorns and teddy bears,
And magical things.

Goodbye to my heart,
And the song that it sings.
Goodbye to rainbows
And horses with wings.
