Tzipora Knock

Holes - Poem by Tzipora Knock

i have holes in my head
holes on the brain
dotting the streets
filled with dirty water pain

i take a breath and leap over
eyes squeezed tight
their black puddles wink at me
advice to give up the fight

undeterred, i nail down some boards
cover those potholes with steel
trapping inside these demons of mine
i'd rather forget how i feel

moving on down the street
just when i think i'm in the clear
all that stuff was just a nightmare
thats when the holes reappear

bigger now
with gaping mouths
they chase me down and swallow me whole
gagging on muddy memories
it's murder of soul by pothole
